Today I went to the beach

I went to the beach today and I saw some wildlife. Mostly from behind a fence. There was a tour and I had to go with a guide. It wasn't that bad because I made some friends and that always makes things better. I learned a lot of things, like the bull Elephant Seal will have a harem of up to 180 females and will lose a kilo in the three months that they spend on land mating and fighting other seals. Here are a couple pictures that I was able to take of the animals.

Saw some guanacos
Saw a grey fox
Some elephant seals
An armadillo that came right up and tried to eat from the people. I wanted to put a leash on him and take him home and name him.
and a penguin finally. I only had to travel a couple days by bus and spend a lot of money to get to see one up close.

I guess in some of the other colonies you can get up close to the penguins. As you walk through the colony they will brush pass you as they waddle.

A good question here is how does the penguin get back down the hill after it has made it up?

Made it back with no problems

I have made it through Torres del Paine. It was three nights and four days of kilometers of walking, wind that felt like it came from the hand of God, heat, rain that came at me sideways, all mixed with amazing vistas that when all was done was absoultly worth it. Here are a few of the pictures that I took during the four days. I took a lot more, but these are my favorite.

This is from the walk into the park. It took an entire day, and the whole time the cuernos, with their three different colors, were in full view.
This is from the second day. I walked to see Glacier Grey and on the way back there were two parrots. I heard that the park has over 150 species of birds. The entire trip condors were always over head. Kind of made me nervous.
This is from the second day as well. This is up a valley that at the mirador the cuernos could be seen with their glaciers. The glaciers were always making sounds, a little bit like thunder.
This is the third and probably hardest day. I think that I took the least amount of photos on this day. This is another picture of the cuernos. I like this one because all of the colors can be seen.
These are the stars. I took this picture on my last day. I woke up at about five thirty in the morning, scrambled up huge pieces of granite rocks in the dark, and wore myself out before the day even started just to get a chance to take this picture. The towers are very impressive, towering above the entire park and a lake at the base. Here the wind was the worst. It knocked me over more than once. And sitting and waiting for the sun to rise was very cold as well.

Some time spent in Patagonia

Tomorrow I leave for Torres del Paine National Park two hours north of Puerto Natales. I am going to be camping for five days with a kid from Denmark. I have decided that after five days we are either going to be really close or I am going to kill him. There is no in-between with this type of thing.
The more that I think about this trekking trip, the more that I get nervous. But I think that it is going to be alot like starting my trip to South America. I have never gone camping with just a back pack, a tent and some food before. It should all be fine because Paine is a great place to start. I have to camp at designated spots and they have refugios where I can pick up some food. The park also has about 500,000 visitors a season. So I am trying to not be worried, but still.
Here are some pictures that I took at the beach in Puerto Natales today. I really like some of them so enjoy.

Por Fin 2

Here is an update of what I have done in two weeks.

Partied in Santiago
Climbed a Volcano
Rode on a bus for hours
Saw a glacier
And saw some wildlife
I have done some other things but mostly I feel like I have been running from place to place. Right now I am in Puerto Natales and I am going to go to Torres del Paine in a couple of days. That is one of the boxes that I am going to get to check from my "list of things I have to absoultly do while in South America".

Por Fin

So I am trying to upload some of the pictures that I have but the website will not let me.
Right now I am in El Calafate and I have not had to use slower internet since I was in Jr. High. So as soon as I can I will upload some photos. Today I went to Glaciar Perito Moreno and it was beautiful. I have also been spending my time with a couple from Colombia and I has been nice because I have been speaking Spanish.

Until later, besos.
